California Pop #7

The highlight of February happened to be at the Brewery Art Colony of Los
Angeles. The gallery was called Abundant Sugar and was currently being
rented out by the guerilla art conglomerate known as The Cannibal Flower.
The was an art rave, a true happening, with at least twenty very viable
underground artists showcasing a variety of works. There were DJ's and live
psychedelic jam bands pumping music to a host of L.A.'s freaks, beauties,
and performers (there was even a "psychic" fortune teller). A majority of
the art was excellent (a true strangely cool cigarette smoking pink bunnies
weilding overexaggerated pistols. Also worthy of mention was Stacey Justis'
"Animutations", a series of professional-looking doll-faced, plush animal
hybrids. Were they three dimensional collages of childhood dream-obsessions
or just neato toys for surrealist kids? The only downside to the whole
experience was the $7 "donation" at the door, which was actually mandatory
(though I managed to talk my way out of having to pay).
